Christianity is the third largest religion in India by numbers and is widely recognized all over the country but there’s more that you did not know about Indian Christians. We gathered a few facts for you.
1. Contrary to the popular beliefs, Christianity was introduced to India in 52 AD by Thomas, one of the 12 Apostles of Jesus i.e. Christianity in India is 2000 years old.
2. Christians in India are divided into approximately 200 denominations.
3. 2.4% of the country’s population is Christian.
4. Mizoram has the highest Christian population in the country, 90.5 %.
5. Louis Jacolliot a French author , claimed that Jesus spent his ‘lost years’(ages 13 to 30) in India.
6. Though Christianity doesn’t believe or endorses the caste system, ironically Indian Christians are classified into castes and sub-castes and thus the whole division of the Christian population in India comes to SC -9 % , ST – 32.8 % ,OBC – 24.8 % , Gen – 33.3%
7. Out of 24 million Christians in India, 19.9 million are Catholics, the sect who recognize Pope as their religious head.
8. It might be quite uncanny to believe but there are Christian Sadhus And Christian Ashrams.
9. The Church Of Satan is a registered entity in India.
